Operation One Family Article
Operation One Family was a regional convention-style weekend held in Southern California on August 2nd thru August 5th 2007. Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California hosted the families in beautiful dorms, complete with private bathrooms, and providing meeting venues on campus. Our schedule of events was as follows:
? Thursday, August 2nd – Arrivals got acquainted during their beach party in Newport Dunes.
? Friday, August 3rd – TAPS Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp featured Dr. Darcie Sims at Marine base Camp Pendleton from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Includes all meals.
? Saturday, August 4th – Educational workshops and training for the adults and fun activities for the children on the campus of Vanguard University. Share Faire will provided resources and support organization in a expo setting. All meals will be provided.
? Saturday, August 4th Evening– Walk across the street from the campus and enjoy the Orange County Fair’s Cowabunga Celebration – tickets and rides provided.
? Sunday, August 5th – Non-Denominational Sunday a.m. Service followed by Brunch and a full day of fun at Knotts Berry Farms in Buena Park. Departures directly from Knott’s Berry Farm.
OPERATION ONE FAMILY was formed to support the families of the fallen and build a lasting bond of support. The organization is spearheaded by Rotary Clubs within District 5320 including Rotary Clubs in Brea, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Coto de Caza/Rancho San Margarita Del Sol, Fountain Valley, Newport-Balboa, Newport Irvine, Orange, San Clemente Sunrise and San Juan Capistrano.
