The BPHS Chili Contest would normally have been at Silverado Days, an event where BPHS has won many awards in the past. One year they took first place in all areas. But with this year’s cook-off cancelled the contest was held at the school.
There were eight student teams who entered the contest. The Chairman of the event was teacher Barbara Crampton..
Aaron Fa’auli, and Jaime Flores, both 17, took a recipe they found and added a few twists – namely hot sausage and bacon – to turn it into their “Super Mario Chili.”
The young cooks handed out chili-filled cups to the seven Buena Park Rotary Club members, who served as judges for the competition.
One group wore chef’s coats, Novian Poole-Hines, 17, and Jiovanni Gonzalez, 16, proudly displayed their “Million Dollar Chili,” their pot sitting atop a bed of fake $100 bills.
Rotary District 5320 Youth Programs Director Dennis Salts and Buena Park Rotary President Baron Night were on hand to announce the winner
First place was awarded to Cheryl Corpin, Diana Gonzalez, and Vanessa Maier, “Jammin’ Chili.”
