Cordelia Knott was remembered on her 120th Birthday on January 23rd. The Buena Park Library, Knott’s Berry Farm and local author Christiane Salts put together a program for youngsters and adults. There were two coloring contest prizes and an adult door prize donated by Knott’s.

A half-hour program was presented, with Cordelia being played by Christiane Salts. Mrs. Salts is a long time resident of Buena Park and the author of the book “Cordelia Knott: Pioneering Business Woman,” which is available for purchase at Knott’s.

Mrs. Salts made Cordelia come alive by wearing make-up, a wig and a period custom. The audience was enthralled by the dialogue and various memorabilia used in the performance.
There were 55 youngsters and 65 adults spellbound by the show. Everyone heard the story of how Mrs. Knott enabled the family to survive and even prosper during the Great Depression.
It was with Walter and Cordelia’s hard work, strong will, persistence, and Cordelia’s cooking ability that they were able to build Knott’s Berry Farm.

The two winners of the coloring contest each received a basket with a Snoopy, two Knott’s tickets, and Mrs. Knott’s cookies. The adult door prize was a hugh basket filled with assorted Knott’s food items and a commemorative t-shirt. The prizes were donated by Knott’s Berry Farm.

All attendees were treated to Mrs. Knott’s carrot cake with boysenberry filling. The cake was a big hit with the crowd, and was donated by Knotts. The final activity was for students to work on a word search, coloring sheets and a maze. These games were based on Knott’s facts and history. Each student received a bag of Knott’s cookies for their participation.

Thanks goes to Mary Ivelia, the children’s librarian who initiated the idea of celebrating Cordelia’s 120th birthday. Library volunteers decorated the room and served the cake and punch.
