BPHS Chili Cookoff Team Selection
Each year Rotary selects a Buena Park High Silverado Days Chili Cookoff Team. This years team is shown above. They will be a Silverado Days on Sunday October 17th. Let’s all come join the fun and support our team. Barbara Crampton is the Team Advisor. Our September 29th meeting was held at Buena Park High School (BPHS) for the purpose of choosing the Chili Cook-Off Team to represent our club at Silverado Days. Nine teams competed—their chili names varied as widely as their ingredients and decor: “Three Meat Treat” with bacon, steak, and ground beef; “Outlaw Chili”; “West Coast Chili”, whose display featured “sand” (actually brown sugar) castles and other shapes; a very hot “Tribal Chili”; football themed “Chili Kick-Off”; “OC Chili” with the unexpected ingredient of oranges; using a different fruit was “Pineapple Express”; “Dia de los Muertos”; and the crowd-pleasing “Touchdown Chili.” Rotarians on hand to judge the event included President Christiane Salts, Dennis Salts, Baron Night, Beth Swift, and BPHS Assistant Principal Shari Brekenfeld. Other BPHS faculty helping with the judging, facilitating the event, or just there to taste the selections were Principal Jim Coombs, Assistant Principal Bill Wallace, Assistant Principal Enrique Romero, Culinary Arts Teacher Barbara Crampton, Campus Supervisor Norma Rodriguez, Custodial Supervisor Bob Pedroza, Custodian Marcos Escobedo and Rosemarrie Whitaker. When all the taste-testing was done, and the numbers were “crunched” by Baron Night, the winners were announced: 3rd place was Dia de los Muertos; 2nd place, Pineapple Express; and 1st place winner, who will represent our club at Silverado Days, was Touchdown Chili.
