Towed into the air by powerful war planes and set free to stealthily glide behind enemy lines, Bob Meyer piloted his plywood glider on D-Day June 6th, 1944, the day that the great Normandy invasion began. This strategic move enabled Americans to attack behind the German lines and to sew chaos and confusion for the Nazis.
Bob not only flew into Normandy, but he flew again in Southern France, into Holland and later over the Rhine into Germany. That’s right Bob is a rare glider pilot, one of twelve out of 6,500 to make all four Airborne Invasions.
In September Bob will travel to Holland to participate in the 65th Anniversary of the Liberation of Holland. The part Bob played is that Bob was one of the pilots of 500 gliders that were towed into operation Market Garden a famous battle that pushed the Germans out of Holland.
Bob will shared some of his real life experiences as a Survivor of four glider invasions. You will learn a lot about the price paid for our freedom by our brave troops in World War II. Bob is also a long time member of the Orange Rotary Club. One of Bob’s current projects is SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS PLEASE VISIT WWW.abitofhome.org AND HELP SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! Info 714/639-5218
