Buena Park High Future Farmers of America FFA, Number 1 Farm in California
At our Buena Park Rotary Buena Luncheon on October 27th, the program was about Future Farmers
of America. Park High School’s dynamic agriculture program was judged to be the best farm in California. This wonderful program was highlighted by: Advisor Jessica Fernandes and students
Karina Gomez and Nancy Juaregui.
Their presentation was delivered with enthusiasm.
We were treated to a slideshow narrated by the student leaders. The agriculture program offered by BPHS includes college accredited courses such as Earth Science, Biology, Economics, Art/History of Floral Design, Ornamental Horticulture, and Pre-Veterinary Science. The program has grown 4-fold in the last 5 years, from 83 to 328 students. There is a need for sponsorships and scholarships for needy students. One hundred dollars was donated by our club at today’s meeting.
Jessica Fernandes was awarded a Rotary Vocational Service Award and
FJUSD Superintendent George Geokaris
was on hand to help present it.
The students in the FFA have their own
Farm Store, which is open to the public every Wednesday from 3 – 6 p.m. on Magnolia a block and a half north of Orangethorpe. The products are grown on the farm and sold by the students.
