2011.02 Read Across America
Read Across America: March 2 is the birthday of Theodor Geisel, known to generations of young readers as Dr. Seuss. Geisel died in 1991, but in his honor, his birthday has been declared Read Across America Day by the National Education Association. This is the 14th year that thousands of participating schools, libraries and community centers celebrated by reading together. Rotary members also participated since the month of March is Rotary Literacy Month. Members Chris and Dennis Salts read to students in five classrooms at Danbrook and Buena Terra Schools—reading to them Andy and Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure, a book about ethics. Member Beth Swift also read at two schools: Corey and Gilbert Schools.
