The Cypress College Americana Awards Committee unanimously selected Diane Scheerhorn as Buena Park’s Citizen of the Year for 2010.

Diane Scheerhorn, Ph.D, is the Superintendent of Centralia School District. She and her husband Steve are Rotary members and Paul Harris Fellows. Currently, Diane is serving as Buena Park Rotary Vocational Service Chair. Diane facilitated the dialogue and questions for DK Lee when he visited in 2008. She was an excellent commentator and represented District 5320 in an outstanding fashion. She and her team also handled Registration and Seating at the District-wide Leadership Awards Luncheon in 2009.

Her leadership style fosters a community culture which values students first and foremost, followed by parents, teachers, and staff personnel. Diane is working for the benefit of all Buena Park residents. Her expertise was invaluable as she served on the Buena Park Library District Strategic Plan committee

Dr. Scheerhorn is an active member of the Buena Park Rotary Club, where she served on the committee to provide disaster school supplies to our local schools. In her role as Rotary’s Vocational Chair, she works to foster a greater understanding of the importance of a variety of vocations, including both degree-path and technical education. Diane is a believer in Community Colleges and how they help to develop our future leaders. She has worked with Cypress College, and both Cal-State Fullerton and Long Beach over the years. Each year, Diane supports the Needy Children’s Shopping Spree, where she has served as a volunteer shopper, and provides Rotary Easter baskets for children at the annual city-wide Eggstravaganza event.
Dr. Scheerhorn serves as an active member of the Buena Park Chamber of Commerce, sharing her skills in promoting local business. She attends many chamber events, and often donates gift baskets that she has created.
