Rotarians at Work in their Community Day around the world.

Rotarians-at-Work Day happens in April each year. Buena Park Rotary participates each year. The event was started in 2006 as a joint effort between two Rotary Districts (one in the United States and one in Mexico), Rotarians-at-Work Day continues to grow. Each year, Clubs around the world identify a hands-on project that all members can participate in to help their local community. The day is a great way to revitalize your Club, bring in new members and generate publicity for Rotary.

In 1911, Rotarians enthusiastically adopted the motto “Service Above Self” because it so aptly articulated the ideals that the fledgling organization was in the process of developing. Through the vision of PDG Bob Watson from District 5340, every Rotarian in the world has the opportunity to renew our commitment to this timeless message of compassion and generosity of spirit by participating in Rotarians-at-Work Day during April 2012.

All clubs in District 5320 were ask to select a project(s) that they can do in their community. The activity could be done any time during April. Clubs were encouraged to partner with other clubs, including Rotaract, Interact Clubs and other Community Groups. Imagine the result when local clubs and clubs around the world bring together members on Rotarians-at-Work Day to perform a variety of hands-on community service projects. This effort can help thousands, both directly and indirectly.

In 2012 Buena Park Rotary participated in three events on April 21st.

1) Rummage Sale at BP Police Dept. to benefit Explorer Monse Rodriguez, who is hospitalized.

Members supported the event and the club made a donation to the fund.

2) At the BP Library, members helped stuff books in book bags for new Moms from 1-2 p.m.
This is a project where Rotary partners with Acacia Quilting Guild and the BP Woman’s Club.
This allows every new mom in Buena Park to receive a Bookbag with books to help them read
to their babies. The goal is to have children ready to read before they start school.

3) As part of Buena Park Library Reads event, a documentary of Louis Zamperini was shown on
Saturday, April 21st at 3:00 p.m. Rotary sponsored the event and provided snacks for attendees.
Buena Park Reads is a month-long event reading Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, the story of the
courageous life of Louis Zamperini, a 1936 Olympic athlete and World War II POW.
